Guides & OutfittersBack to ListingMusk OxenI've always wanted to bowhunt for musk oxen, but didn't want to freeze doing it. You don't have to. Jerome Knap of Canada North Outfitting now runs musk oxen hunts out of Cambridge Bay, Nunavut in mid-August. You fly from Minneapolis to Edmonton (I'd avoid Toronto if possible because getting through customs is slow), overnight there, then fly to Yellowknife and on to Cambridge Bay. I bowhunted Cape Peel, which is a 3 hour boat ride. If waves are up, you overnight at the only motel in town. It's a bit pricey, but the restaurant there is good. The camp you hunt out of is fine, great Arctic char fishing after you get your bull. There is now a 2-bull limit in that area. The cost of the 5 day hunt was $4200 plus $155 for each ox tag. There is an additional $1000 guide fee for the second bull. There is also a small export fee when you leave. There are plenty of oxen and it is a great experience. The weather? It gets up to 50 in the daytime. Super. Outfitter ListingsCanada North Outfitting, Inc.Jerome Knap PO Box 340 Almonte, Ontario KOA 1AO Canada 613 256-4057 Email: cnorth@istar.ca |
